Cologne, August 2018: At the VdS-FireSafety Cologne 2018 on the 4th and 5th of December the "Future Forum Fire Protection", a conference within the exhibition area, will take place for the second time – after its great success last year. Under the motto "Today Vision – Tomorrow Everyday Life", well-versed experts will give specialist lectures on innovative topics in the mornings of both days. All visitors of VdS Fire-Safety are invited to attend the lectures of their choice, ask questions and discuss with the speakers.

Integrated hazard prevention

One of the topics to be dealt with in this year's Future Forum is improved data exchange for hazard prevention: The "KooS" working group (Cooperation-Interface) has set itself the goal of establishing a uniform interface between alarm receiving centres, the police and the fire brigade. Its aim is to make relevant information on a burning building and the findings of the security services active in the building quickly and comprehensively accessible to the authorities. In addition to technical issues, data protection also plays a decisive role here. The presentation in the Future Forum highlights the current status of the interchange.

The future of fire detection

New methods in fire detection will be demonstrated in a presentation by Bosch Security Systems. A video camera is already in use today, which detects both flames and smoke thanks to a special algorithm. The big advantage: The fires are detected directly at their source, even before the smoke rises to the ceiling. The solution is being further expanded and is to be linked with various other applications – for example to forward the detection data to the fire brigade or to fire detection systems. The Future Forum will be about visions of future areas of application as well as experiences with the existing solutions, including live demonstrations.

Other topics include: the Internet of Things (IoT), agile software development and social engineering.

"For all topics, the aim will be to compare the solutions currently in use with those that are likely to be commonplace in a few years' time," explains Lars Braun, organiser of VdS Fire-Safety. "The innovation cycles today are extremely fast. In some areas we already find completely changed conditions and possibilities after two years. All the more exciting are the future scenarios that the experts at the Future Forum will present to us.”

Science and Exhibitor Forum

The proven science and exhibitor forum will take place on the same stage as the "Future Forum Fire Protection" on both afternoons. Here, universities and manufacturers present their latest findings, solutions and trends.

In addition, the large international trade fair offers a wide range of information on current products and innovations and ample opportunity to talk to the suppliers and other trade fair visitors.
